What is Gematria?

In the Hebrew language, every letter is also a number. א (Aleph) = 1, ב (Bet) = 2, all the way to ת (Tav) = 400. This means every Hebrew word has a numerical value — the sum of its letters.

Gematria is the ancient practice of exploring these numerical values to reveal hidden connections between words, concepts, and sacred texts. When two words share the same value, tradition teaches they share a deeper connection.

For example: אהבה (Ahavah, "Love") = 13, and אחד (Echad, "One") = 13. Love and Unity are numerically identical.
