AtBash — The Perfect Mirror
The most elegant cipher: Aleph becomes Tav, Bet becomes Shin, creating a perfect mirror.
AtBash (אתבש) is the most elegant of all gematria ciphers. Its principle is simple: reverse the alphabet. Aleph becomes Tav. Bet becomes Shin. Gimel becomes Resh. Each letter is replaced by its mirror image, counting from the opposite end.
The name "AtBash" encodes its own method: Aleph-Tav (the first pair), Bet-Shin (the second pair). This perfect mirror creates exactly 11 pairs of letters, and each pair's Standard values sum to 401 (the value of Aleph + Tav = 1 + 400). The consistency of this sum — 401 for every pair — reveals a deep mathematical symmetry built into the Hebrew alphabet.
AtBash appears in the Torah itself. The prophet Jeremiah uses AtBash to encode the name Babylon: "Sheshach" (ששך) is the AtBash encoding of "Bavel" (בבל, Babylon) — Bet becomes Shin, Bet becomes Shin, Lamed becomes Kaf. This is not modern invention; the Bible itself uses this cipher. The AtBash transformation of YHVH (יהוה) yields the letters Mem-Tsade-Pe-Tsade (מצפצ), which contains the root Tz-P-H (צפה), meaning "to watch" or "to look out" — suggesting that the mirror of the Divine Name reveals God's watchful presence.

Smooth animations, precise geometry, educational clarity. A single Hebrew word is calculated using all methods covered in this episode, side by side. A column for each method shows the same word yielding different values. The same word, different lenses, different revelations.
